Timber frame DIY canopy gets a thumbs up from Birchwood Trading

Receiving customer photos of finished projects is the icing on the cake for any small business. What better endorsement of your products and services than having the end result proudly shared with you.

These photos were received this month from a North West based couple who visited our trade counter in search of options for an outdoor covered area at their home. The canopy would allow them enjoy their garden for longer spells and also leave their patio furniture outdoors without having to cover it up every evening.

Undecided as to whether to opt for a complete set size domestic veranda system with aluminium frame and polycarbonate roof glazing panels, or design and erect their own timber frame and glaze the roof with cut to size multiwall polycarbonate fixed with a structural glazing bar, they sought advice and samples of suitable products.

Having opted to build their own bespoke frame to best fit the space available to them, they then chose to glaze the area with 16mm opal regrind multiwall polycarbonate. The opal glazing offered some additional shade and also, as with all of our multiwall polycarbonate, provides UV protection. The glazing was held in position with the P227 structural glazing bar system. The glazing sheet was cut to the customer’s exact required measurements and the joining bars were supplied in lengths of 3.5m long, which the customer down cut to size.

Complementary side trims, end closures and end plates were also supplied and all items delivered to the customer’s home address.

We see many examples of outside structures and we are particularly impressed with this one. It’s literally transformed the couple’s outside space into a well thought out usable covered area which we are sure they will enjoy for years to come.
